Friends. Loved ones. THE SEASON OF HYGGE IS UPON US.
People who think (even) more about periods than I do will equate autumn with the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. The luteal phase is the phase before your period — yes, the one associated with PMS and all the physical and emotional symptoms that come with it.
But wait, you say. I love fall! And I hate PMS! Yes, yes. But the things you love about fall are probably the things that make you sip comforting drinks, curl up in a blanket, don a scarf, and choose to stay in and read for the night instead of going out with friends. And these are the same things we’re supposed to do during the luteal phase; go inward, conserve energy, and take REALLY GOOD CARE of ourselves.
To that end, I’m sharing one of my all-time favorite Spotify playlists that I made a year ago (two years ago? three?). Hashtag Hygge is the perfect soundtrack to autumn in my biased opinion, full of jazz, blues, French tunes, and some other rando songs thrown in there.
So pop this playlist on, crack open your window, and let the crisp breeze in. Light a spice-scented candle, wrap yourself in a chunky blanket, and curl up with a good book. If you must, drink a vomit-flavored PSL. Put on your softest sweater and cuddle a cat. And don’t forget to get your flu shot!
